Proactive Device Lifecycle Management
A major trend in 2026 is the focus on the entire lifespan of a medical device. Previously, security was often ignored once a device was installed. Now, hospitals use automated platforms to track "Vulnerability Debt"—the accumulation of unpatched software in older machines.
This process includes maintaining a Software Bill of Materials (SBOM), which is a "list of ingredients" for all the software inside a device. If a new vulnerability is discovered in a specific piece of code, the hospital's security system can instantly identify every single device that contains that code. This allows for rapid patching or risk mitigation before hackers can exploit the flaw.
